The vaccine wins the battle: 47 fewer deaths in a month in Almería

Report on the evolution of the third and fourth wave

The so-called "descending plateau" of the coronavirus in the province of Almería is reflected, at least, in two indicators analyzed by epidemiologists in the province.

With data extracted from the website of the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA), the number of new positives for Covid-19 and fatalities is being contained in the first case and decreasing in the second.

The coronavirus vaccine is helping the figures recorded at the beginning of the year become part of a bad memory of the pandemic in Almería.

For months

Thus, compared to the 23,600 cases declared to the Ministry of Health between the months of January and February, in March and April the sum barely reaches 8,000.

By months, in January 15,420 infections were registered; in February the figure dropped to 8,247 and in March it dropped to 3,842.

The fourth wave arrived, more or less, in the month of April after the Easter holidays and, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía, in this month the number of positive cases notified to the Ministry of Health is very similar in that month to March. Specifically, from April 1 to yesterday there are 4,157 registered.

Vaccine and restrictions

While it is true that an average of more than 100 cases are reported every day, "it is clear that the fourth wave is not being as severe as expected."

This has contributed, on the one hand, that almost a third of the target population in Almería has already received at least one dose of vaccine, and, on the other, mobility restrictions within the autonomous community itself. It was not until this past Thursday that the eight Andalusian provinces were opened.

Fewer deaths

The fourth wave is undoubtedly being much less lethal than the third. And the data that they analyze daily in the Territorial Delegation of Health and Families certify it in Almería.

The third wave gave its last blows in March, the month in which a total of 108 people lost their lives due to the coronavirus in the province.

In the fourth wave, from April 1 to 30, the number of deaths registered in Almería has been 61 (47 less). There has been a decline of almost 45 percent from month to month.

Only in the month of February there were 200 deaths, that is, more than the sum of the March and April records. Gone are the days in which the Health report pointed to up to seven deaths. Without a doubt, Tuesdays, when notifications from the weekend accumulated, were considered the most mournful day of the week.

More in ICU

On the contrary, what has brought the month of April to the province has been a slight increase in admissions in the intensive care units (ICU) of the province. Compared to the 75 patients in March, in the last month there have been 88.

In yesterday's report from the Andalusian Regional Government's Ministry of Health and Families, it was reported that there are currently 124 hospitalizations in Almería, of which 42 correspond to ICU patients. This week there were only 115 admissions.

Stats for the last 24 hours - 99 more cases and 1 more death

May begins with less than 100 positives but with another deceased by covid

Health counts 10 more hospitalized in 24 hours, two of them in the ICU

The positives detected in 24 hours in the province of Almería fall below 100. This Saturday, May 1, despite being a holiday, the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía has published its daily epidemiological report, which will not arrive tomorrow Sunday, as usual, and in it the province will be seen again by below the red line of one hundred daily cases.

With 99 new infected since 07:00 a.m. on Friday, Almería now has 53,237 positives for coronavirus detected since March and drops again today from 100 after two consecutive days overcoming that barrier and after last Wednesday 76 positives will be registered in 24 hours, the lowest figure since April 6.

In the same way, today the epidemiological part adds one deceased to the counter of deaths due to covid in the province, which, despite having slowed down noticeably in the last month, already adds 805 people from Almeria who have lost their lives after being infected.

For their part, the hospitals in the province continue with a similar load to the previous day, despite the fact that in the last 24 hours there have been 10 people from Almería who have needed to be admitted, two of them in the ICU. Thus, this Saturday there are 119 patients hospitalized in Torrecárdenas, Poniente and La Inmaculada, of which 43 are in Intensive Care given the severity with which the disease has affected them.

As for the Almeria with epidemiological discharge, in the last 24 hours there have been 293, which leaves the total in 47,830 and that, again, considerably reduces the number of active cases in the province, which is already at 4,602.

In the autonomous community of Andalusia, the number of positives detected this Saturday was 1,356, below the 3,026 recovered. In addition, it should be noted that 9 Andalusians have died from covid in the last 24 hours.
