El Ejido, once again an Area of Great Tourist Influence

The shops will be free to designate the days and opening hours

An important step for tourism and the economy of the municipality of El Ejido. The Junta de Andalucía has declared the third municipality of the province of Almería as a Zone of Great Tourist Influence (ZGAT), a distinction that it renews.

It is a cataloging that allows retail commercial establishments to have full freedom to designate the days and hours of opening in the areas and during the periods recognized in this figure.

In the case of the municipality of El Ejido, the Area of Large Tourist Influence is applied according to two criteria, as specified by the regional government through a press release. On the one hand, it is limited to the coastal area of Almerimar and Balerma for the periods of Easter and summer and, on the other, it includes the entire municipality for the dates on which the local Theater Festival takes place, which usually be held between mid-May and June.

The Ejido thus joins Roquetas de Mar, and both are part of the group of Andalusian municipalities that have received this cataloging following the new regulations introduced by the Decree Law for the improvement and simplification of economic regulation approved by the Ministry of Transformation in 2020.

The new regulation contemplates, among other aspects, precisely the indefinite nature of the declaration of this instrument, as long as the requirements are maintained, thus eliminating the processing of a new procedure every four years.

It's not the only one

The Regional Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities has also agreed to declare the municipalities of Lepe and Punta Umbría (Huelva) and Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Nerja and Torremolinos (Málaga) as a High Tourist Influence Area (ZGAT). Marbella and Estepona, also from the Malaga province, had already renewed this catalog together with Roquetas de Mar.

The regional administration specifies that these seven municipalities already had this distinction of Area of Large Tourist Influence previously, in the period between 2017 and 2020, and after the end of its validity they have started another new procedure to request it.
