One of our readers has asked the following question.....

"Would anyone know if Banco Popular in Almerimar has an Area Manager and if so where could I find this information?"

If you can help answer this query please get in touch and I will pass the information on to the person who has made the request.

Please see this recommendation from one of our readers, Kenneth P......

For anyone wishing to replace the Formica work top with a long lasting hard wearing granite top.
There is a company situated adjacent to the Wednesday market site in El Ejido. Very good personal service to include visit to take measurements, removing the electric hob and the sink and reconnecting both after the new work top is installed. Also disposal of the old Formica work top. Price will depend on the quality and pattern of the granite chosen. Company details as follows:
Marmoles Lomasur, S.L.L.
Calle San Martin, 6
04700 El Ejido
Telephone: 950 486 535
Mobile: 659 696 745

I had a chat with Spencer earlier today about UK satellite TV in Spain. He said he has had loads of people asking him what is going to happen. We will be preparing a more detailed article for publication soon. However, in the meantime, to stop Spencer having to explain this many times to many people here is a brief summary.

We have now received the following information about Granada for Jules and others....

"We have been 3 times showing friends and family. Absolutely brilliant. Choosing the right time of year and the right time of day is very important, booking your tickets prior to the visit is also very important. A trip to Granada/ Alhambra Palace cannot be done in a day, overnight accommodation is essential.
We booked our tickets for the afternoon session, went by car in the morning and parked in our hotel car park opposite the Alhambra Palace, (Alixares Hotel). Day two we spent wandering around the streets and shops in Granada, wonderful city, well worth a visit,
Lots of info on the web site."

Further to the request from Jules. We have had a couple of comments so far....

"We went by train .....excellent service but you need to book which way you want your seat to face. Plenty of taxis to hotel. Definitely book a tour of the Alhambra ....too much to see without a guide."

"My tip would be don't go.  I found it the most frustrating and unpleasant adventure of all my time in the region.  Service in general was poor to bad.  Pricing ditto.  We did actually use the bus station having driven there, parked and tried to bus into the centre.  Roadworks caused chaos; there was no signage in Spanish or English to indicate bus diversions and cancellations and as a result we missed our slot to visit the Alhambra.  The locals too seemed pretty dour folk and unfriendly to boot.
We cancelled the hotel and returned home to Almerimar but not before visiting Guadix, stopping for some walking in the Sierra Nevada National Park and spending some time strolling around Lanjaron and Orgiva which were a delight.
The palace in Almeria proved a much better visit and there are some smashing restaurants and eateries there.
My opinion only; perhaps the gods were colluding against us that day."

We will publish more if/when we receive them.

One of our readers, Jules, is wondering whether anyone can provide her with some tips about Granada. In particular:

- recommendations on restaurants or things to see in Granada (as well as the Alhambra)

- Advice from anyone who has used the bus station in Granada.

If you hve any useful info please get in touch and we will pass it on to Jules.

We have just heard from an FGS member who is looking to get to Málaga airport on Saturday 21 September for a flight that leaves at 9pm.

Any suggestions about 1 way car hire, lifts, transfers, buses etc.?

If yes please get in touch and we will pass on the information.

We have just received this request for help from a reader of the site. If you are interested in helping this person please get in touch and we will pass on your contact details.

"I was reading your news site and thought you may be able to help me.

I am going to lease an apartment in Almerimar for a year, or longer, and I need to move my belongings from a house-sit between Baza and Castril, about 30 minutes from Baza. It would fit in a couple car loads but I have an electric bike also so I need a 4x4 or van to help.

I was hoping you might be able to pass along my name and email or send me a contact for someone who may be able to help me move.

I would also need to come along with my two cats in the van.

The owners of the house return from the UK the end of the month and would help me with everything but the bike but it would be great to just get moved and settled into my own space.

Look forward to reading more of your news and getting to know Almerimar, the place and the people."

We had had a request for recommendations about where to buy a second hard car in the area as follows:

"Are there any reputable used car dealers in El Ejido worth going to? I am looking for a four door, five seater, either diesel or petrol. Any help and advice would be most welcome."

I know that a number of people have used Auto Berma in El Ejido (the Ford garage) to buy both new and second hand cars. Are there any others anyone can recommend? IF yes, please get in touch with us and we will pass on the information.

PS. This has prompted me to add another category of article onto the site - Advice/help wanted.
