After we were out last night doing some planning and preparation for the treasure hunt we called in to El Arroz for some drinks and tapas.

While there Inés mentioned that the regular Thursday night meal deals at El Arroz should be starting again this coming week all being well.

The food will be similar to before but the price is likely to be increased a little. The price has not gone up since the restaurant started these regular Thursday night events and overhead costs have been growing in that time.

According to Inés there will be no increase in the price of drinks, just the cost of the meal itself.

Inés said that we should hopefully have the menu for this coming Thursday in the next day or two.

I was wondering whether the El Arroz Thursday evening offer would continue through June as the World Cup is going on. Inés has told me that the Thursday evenings will continue throughout June as neither England nor Spain are playing on Thursday evenings.

As usual, the Thursday evening meals will stop during July and August 2010.

I have just got back from popping in to Alcor Properties to do a bit of computer work. While there I was chatting to Richard about the tapas at Gourmet restaurant. He was raving about it.

This is the second time we have had a recommendation for their tapas as Iain Kemp, who publishes poetry on the site, has also been telling us how good the place is. We will have to try it out at some point.

Jane from Cuevas de Aladin in Cádiar has been in touch to say that due to requests from customers they are now doing a Thai lunch every Wednesday from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Following our earlier visit to Cádiar (see here) we went back there yesterday for market day and to try out the Thai lunchtime menu at Cueva de Aladin. This time Jacqui and I were accompanied by Mary B and her friend Wendy.

Restaurante La Soleá, here in Almerimar, has organized a Jornada de Pulpo from the 1st to the 15th of March.

In these two weeks they will be offering eight different dishes of octopus (racion size).

These will include:

Arroz de pulpo - octopus rice

Carpaccio de pulpo - thinly sliced octopus served in olive oil, chives and lime juice

Pulpo a la parrilla - flame grilled octopus

Croquetas de pulpo - octopus croquettes

bon bons de pulpo - chocolate covered octopus

plus some other octopus dishes

 

During these two weeks all racion sized octopus dishes will cost only 7 euros a dish.

We hope to publish more details and a poster for this event in due course.

Thanks to Dermot for this review of a restaurant in Ugijar. As you can see from the story here, we went there for tapas after attending the market in Ugijar some time ago. Perhaps next time we will try the menu del dia.

Just been down to see Alan and Sharon about details for the Xmas golf tomorrow.  While there Alan called in and checked whether El Arroz are doing the Thursday night deal this week as we had not received a menu via email as we normally do.

The answer is that the regular Thursday deal is happening. However, due to the bank holidays earlier in the week they have not been able to publish the menu in advance.

Further to our earlier article here about trying out the Pinchos menu at La Soleá.

Almerimar Today in conjunction with La Soleá are pleased to announce our first Eating Out event of 2010.

The event will take place at Restaurante La Soleá here in Almerimar on Saturday 9 January 2010. Participation in this event is only available through Almerimar Today. If this event is successful it may become the first in a series of such events at restaurants in Almerimar throughout 2010.

The idea is that restaurants here in Almerimar have the opportunity to showcase their cuisine and ambience by running a fixed-price event in conjuction with this site.

As we have done in this case we will work together with the restaurant to agree the date, menu and price. We will then promote the event and manage the bookings.

The restaurant will be responsible for collecting money, handing out entry tickets and agreeing seating plans with those people who wish to reserve tables together.

Following on from John's earlier posting about the Treasure Hunt marshall briefings we had another nice meal at El Arroz. The starters were "Caldo Gallego" (vegetable soup) or Cauliflower au Gratin, pictured below, which was extremely good and surprisingly light. The sauce was very light. While we were in Alcor Properties this morning Alex popped in and provided us with details of the 2010 Burns Night supper to be held on 30 Jan 2010. As El Espigon may be closed by then the supper this year will take place at El Tuerto.

25 euros a head with a deposit of 10 euros to be paid in Alamar to reserve a place.

It was a great night last year so we will probably look to go along even though it is the night after the England vs. Rest of Europe golf event that we are organising.
